    Remapping Reality

[Hong Kong, January 2024] Contemporary by Angela Li is proud to present "Remapping Reality", group exhibition featuring seven young artists who eagerly experiment with various medium, elevating everyday mundane objects to new heights. Through their works, they delve into the memories and identities shaped by their relationships with urban environments. By harnessing their imaginative skills, these artists confront their vulnerabilities and invite viewers to experience their latest explorations. Exhibiting artists include Ma Yee Man Agnes, Elaine Chiu, Gordon Chi, Leung Lok Hei Giraffe, Wong Chun Ho Harris, Leung Siu Fung Hugh and Mizuki Nishiyama. The exhibition will open on Thursday, 4 January, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m with all artists present. The exhibition will remain on view until 23 January, 2024.

Ma Yee Man, Agnes creates experimental paintings by breaking down sentimental objects into a powder-like state and using them as paint pigments. Her works capture the nature of artificial objects that she encounters and studies the dominance of human over the objects’ environment.

Elaine Chiu explores the relationship between different communities during the post pandemic times, when borders reopen and people are reconnected again. She aims to depict how the present moment is a solution-finding era through closure and integration.

Gordon Chi studies the essence of bees' existence and habit, using the perspective of honeybees to reshape and convey their primal nature on his canvases.

From gathering Hong Kong dollar coins to utilizing them as a medium, Leung Lok Hei, Giraffe analyses the interplay between what is visible and hidden within our daily encounter through his signature series.

Humour is a key element in Wong Chun Ho, Harris' ceramic works. He uses a playful and satirical approach to shed light on the seriousness of society and the values he was taught while growing up.

Leung Siu Fung, Hugh’s artistic language delves into the complexities of urban living, exploring the diverse facets of city life through a wide array of artistic medium.

Mizuki Nishiyama explores ancestry, time and femininity in her mixed medium works which include painting. Her latest works utilise ancestral military soil from the 1400s into the oil pigments.

The exhibition allows viewers to discover the extraordinary within the ordinary. The experimental techniques used by each artist prompt visitors to re-evaluate their connections with ordinary objects, urban environments and their own vulnerabilities. Viewers are encouraged to think beyond what they see, fostering a deeper understanding of the complexities of human being.
